"Rug making is more than a just a craft... it’s a passion!"

I started hooking in January 2000 after being introduced to this wonderful pastime by my good friend Mary. I was smitten after hooking less than one square inch and saw the sun come up several nights in a row. Having never experienced that kind of excitement over hand work before, I knew this was the fabric art for me! Within a year I was in business selling original designs and it blossomed into the fabulous shop I have today. After what seems a mere blink of an eye it is now 2010… how time flies when you are having fun!

The shop continues to grow each day and is stocked from floor to ceiling with all kinds of hooking goodies. Beginners who wish to try their hand at rug hooking, please drop by and we will set you up with a class to get you started. Old hands are always welcome for inspiration and a chat.

One of the biggest changes was that my husband and I renovated a commercial building and I moved the shop into one of the units in November 2007. We are now at 498 Main Street, Mahone Bay. It was a very good move with more space and wonderful display windows where I love to feature rugs hooked by the “Main Street Hookers” a fantastic gaggle of gals who meet at the studio between 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm each Wednesday for coffee, tea and fellowship. Hooking travelers, please joins us so we can get to know one another and continue to make it a small world!

Also, my son Shane joined Encompassing Designs over four years ago as the chief wool dyer. He has come up with a lot of very lovely colours and makes putting out our dye books possible.

Happy Hooking!

Christine Little
