I had very good suggestions from members of my hooking group as I went along. One of the most helpful was to zigzag the keyhole before I ever started to hook because I would be unable to do it on my basic sewing machine once there was wool along it. Because the keyhole is the weakest part of this heavy piece, I corded and whipped it so there is now a slight flare where I transitioned to tape. I am not sure if I might have done that better. Any suggestions incase I meet this situation again? The final good advice was to reinforce the keyhole, which also gave a nice place to sign the rug. I have really enjoyed working on this pattern.
