A little about The Dye Guy..... by Christine LittleThirteen years ago my son Shane joined Encompassing Designs between jobs and never left. He learned what I had to teach and as his confidence grew so did his ability to reproduce and match colors. I am proud to say that he has taken over the kitchen and his skill level continues to rise with each dyeing challenge. He spends most of his day custom dyeing for clients matching something they've had in their stash for years and need more of, or color coordinating from upholstery swatches, paint samples, helping clients finish projects that have been set aside that needed a wool match to finish. He keeps a lot of clients happy with his wool and his reputation has spread across North America as someone to go to for dyeing solutions.
He has a bit of a horse shoe in that he generally hits the match the first time. Only once did he dye a color eleven times to partner a pale grey. The customer wanted it perfect and he delivered, not giving up until he reached his goal! This is a true testimony of his work ethic and willingness to make our customers happy. Dyes change over the years and he is continually altering formulas to match what was produced over a decade ago. Dyeing is not an exact science, even working from day to day the outcome can be altered, the water changes, the dye granules in the measuring spoon might be slightly more or less, all of it has an impact on the results in the pots. Shane has a talented eye for alterations to formulas to bring comparable results. He uses Jacquard, Majic Carpet and Cushing dyes, alone or sometimes blended, to match a color produced with different brands of dye. He's never had to tell a customer that he couldn't reproduce their request and we receive so many emails and phone calls to say thank you for his beautiful wools and custom dye jobs. He really is...
